Ways and Means Committee presentation and Informational Meeting

Welcome!

After passing through the Oregon State Legislature with significant bi-partisan support, House Bill 3563 was signed into law by Governor Kulongoski on July 17th, 2007. From HB 3563 the Public Safety Strategies Task Force was created and is expected to report their findings in 2009. The PSST is made up of two state representatives from each party, two state senators from each party, and two representatives from the governor's office.

The Public Safety Strategies Task Force is charged with taking a critical look at the current corrections system in Oregon and making recommendations for policy changes for the 2009 legislative session. This will be done through the lens of public safety and cost-effectiveness models.

In the documents section, you can follow the task force's efforts and see what the experts said about what works and what doesn't to reduce crime. Here's an example of the testimony the task force has heard. It's by Ken Robinson, Ed.D., presenting on what works and what doesn't in reducing recidivism (offenders returning to crime).
